Tesla Motors has teased us with the next model to come after the Model S, but the Tesla Model X is on the back burner, at least to the end of 2014. The prototype is, to say the least, very cool, but as prototypes go, there are no promises.
The Tesla Model X is based on the Model S platform, most likely will include the same battery and traction options, as well as the signature 17” touch-screen vehicle interface.
There is where the similarities end, as the electric crossover/SUV will have a completely different body style with seating for seven and beautiful falcon-wing doors which would probably take offense to being called doors. All that being said, though, it’s on the back burner for now.
Right after the Model X was revealed, Tesla Motors started accepting reservations for the otherwise non-existent vehicle, about five hundred or so.
Now that the Tesla Model X is on the back burner, we’ll probably see a few cancel their reservations. On the other hand. Tesla Motors still has plenty to work on pushing the Model S out the door and their other projects, including the SuperCharger Network and their other prototypes.
