The SunPower Corp. has plans to develop new solar installations for the U.S. Navy, Air Force, General Services Administration and National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
The constructions will create approximately 1,000 new jobs, in addition to offering a clean form of energy for the U.S. military.
The construction work is spread throughout the western U.S and includes a 2 MW system in Colorado, various U.S. Navy facilities in the southwest, a 1.8 MW system in Indiana and a 15 MW facility in Arizona, which is expected to be the largest solar installation for a government facility.
The project shows the support that renewable energy technologies have received during the Obama administration and the rapid shift from fossil fuels to green energy. The solar power installations are expected to be completed by next summer and will supply half of the energy needed at the military bases.
