A new Maritime Fuel Cell Research initiative has been launched by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) in collaboration with Temasek Polytechnic (TP).
Mainly, the objective of the initiative is to encourage and provide funds in the early stages of development to projects that prove conducive to improvements and breakthroughs in the fuel cell field and other technologies relevant to the maritime industry.
The tasks that the projects have to focus on are research, development, testing and eventual commercialization of the developed applications. All of these requirements and the main aim of the initiative have been established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
MPA’s Maritime Innovation and Technology (MINT) Fund and TP will financially contribute, with 4 million ($3.03 million) and 1 million ($0.76 million) Singapore dollars, respectively, to the research grant which covers a three-year period.
Two research projects have been identified to meet the requirements of the MOU. While the first project consists in test-bedding fuel cell as auxiliary power in vessels, the second is to develop an automated process for continually provide clean power to underwater systems and devices.
