The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has created the Global Atlas of Renewable Energy Sources reference guide in order to help countries determine their renewable energy generating potential.
The atlas is a compilation of data and maps from the world’s leading technical institutions and private companies. The atlas meticulously tracks wind and solar resources.
This atlas sets the record as the biggest global initiative to assist counties in assisting their potential renewable energy generating potential. In the coming years, creators of the atlas hope to expand the resource with other types of renewable energy.
The International Renewable Energy Agency expects renewable energy to attract a vast amount of investments over the next 10 years and plans for the Global Solar and Wind Atlas to be a useful resource to assist international efforts to double the globe’s share of renewable energy by 2030.
Over 22 countries are now participating and more are expected to join over the next year. Experts are heartened and hope to facilitate a global transition to clean, renewable energy.
