Whoever said electric go karts were not fast enough, he surely didn’t see the Linde E1, which broke every record of the kind so far: from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds! The e-kart was put together expressly for the occasion which took place on the 24th of April at the Motorsport Arena in Oschersleben, Germany.
Being manufactured by a warehouse truck producer (the Linde Material Handling Company), the vehicle has the same drive train used in lift trucks. The main difference is that lift trucks drive on lead acid batteries, while this e-kart uses the well known lithium-ion batteries.
The efficiency of this battery was measured by attaching a “performance box” to the car to see how long it would take for the speed to reach 60 mph. To hold at bay any doubts about the wind helping, the judges followed the Guinness World Record guidelines in making the kart run the track 2 times, in opposite directions: the vehicle scored 3.4 seconds on the first run and 3.5 seconds on the second.
The judges established the records based on the average and so the Linde E1 now holds the Guinness World Records for the fastest electric go kart ever!
