Warming up in winter by using the Sun is one thing, but cooling down in the summer by using the same Sun is way more interesting. LG Electronics just announced yesterday that they will launch their first air conditioner powered by a solar panel.
The 70-watt solar panel will provide part of the power the air conditioner needs, saving 212 kg of carbon dioxide in a 10 year timeframe. The solar panel is placed atop the air conditioner’s outdoor unit.
An other approach towards this has been made by Chromasun, about which we published an article last year. LG’s intentions are the best in the world, but I wonder how is the economical part doing in the buyers’ minds, since this air conditioner will still need a connection to the grid.
