Infinity is about to present its gorgeous new concept car Prototype 10 at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Last year, we have seen the preceding Prototype 9 on the same venue. It was an open-wheel, retro-styled car inspired by Grand Prix racers of old. Additionally, the concept vehicle was equipped with an all-electric powertrain.
The Prototype 10 will be once again futuristic all-electric car. According to a teaser photo, the car will be a single-seater with an open cockpit. The design can be characterized simultaneously like classic or, as Infinity describes it, cool, clean, and forward-looking. Infinity says the designs drops a few hints about the future design direction for the company. Some cues are borrowed from or inspired by the Infinity Q Inspiration concept that was revealed at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year.
Karim Habib, Infiniti’s executive design director, describes Prototype 10:
The Infiniti Prototype 10 echoes the layout and design of some of the most evocative car designs of all time, where power was celebrated through high-powered single-seat competition cars. Our new concept speaks of an electrified future, something which is reflected in its form and details. It is appropriate that we found inspiration in an optimistic bygone era in which cars were characterized by the simple love of driving.
At the moment, there is no precise information available about the powertrain. Infinity leaves out most of the details about Prototype 10. Additionally, the company plans to electrify its whole lineup beginning in 2021. There are small chances that the carmaker will tease further images and information. Most likely we will have to wait for its official unveiling at Pebble Beach on August 23, which is in less than one week. If the last two concepts are any indication, this one should be a stunner as well.
