Gordon Murray, the man behind the McLaren F1, has presented the world’s most efficient electric car at the RAC in London. According to him, the new three-seat T.27 city car will use less energy per mile, compared to Mitsubishi i-MiEV and the electric Smart car.
He also stated that thanks to its lightweight structure, the T.27 is 29 percent more efficient than the electric Smart car and 36 percent more than Mitsubishi’s iQ.
“Lightweight is the most powerful tool we have in our armory in the fight against emissions and fuel consumption. This is true of all cars and especially so with electric vehicles,” says Murray, who is now CEO of Gordon Murray Design.
The 25kW electric motor is also powered by a single 12kWh battery. This thing is possible due to the weight of the car, only 680kg, including the battery.
The 33-horsepower electric motor makes this electric car reach a top speed of around 60mph in under 15 seconds. The T.27 electric car also has the ability to reach 100 miles on a single charge, comparable to Nissan’s LEAF.
