How often do you get to the end of the day and realize that your smartphone’s battery is down into the single digits? ClicLite could be a solution, a solar-powered backup battery and flashlight.

There are plenty of backup power solutions out there to give you an extra boost when your smartphone’s hit those critical percentage points above dead, ranging from backpack types to USB rechargeable, including those that make use of plain-ole alkaline batteries for a quick boost. How about something solar-powered? The ClicLite, available in Germany for around $47, is the solution you’re looking for, but you might have to wait for it to get to the US.

ClicLite is essentially a lithium-ion battery attached to a tiny solar panel, measuring just 4x4cm and 22% efficient. With a full view of sun, this keychain-sized solar-powered battery can recharge in about ten hours. If ten hours is too long for you to wait, you can take advantage of another interesting feature, the ability to add Cliccs, additional tiny solar panels, for about $9 each. With a total of seven additional Cliccs, you can cut the charge time to just an hour. Of course, you could always charge via USB in about two hours [party pooper!].

With a fully-charged ClicLite, whether via solar power or dino-power [USB, possibly], you can get up to 60 hours of light from the LED, or up to 20% charge on a dead iPhone. Given that smartphones are as energy-intensive as they are, getting a little juice via the sun is a great way to reduce your impact, or could give you that extra boost you need in an emergency.
