Yet another chinese electric car: the independent car maker Chery Automobile has unveiled its first plug-in electric car this week.
The car is called S18 (Chinese people like coding the names, like they did to the BYD F3DM electric car), and, if the promises are kept until the launch, its price will be reasonable and the performance will also be suited for a family car.
They say the S18 electric car will go up to 150km (93 miles) on a charge, will reach a speed of up to 120 km/h, and will charge itself to 80% in 30 minutes from a 220V home outlet. Still, if you want to charge it 100%, you’d have to wait for 6 hours.
The performance chart is good for its purpose, since most of the people don’t need to travel very long distances, and putting an additional petrol engine would only have made things more expensive. So, the S18 is solely an electric car.
Moreover, the Chinese government is planning to subsidize alternative energy vehicles purchases to reduce pollution and boost the Chinese car industry. The car will probably be available in Europe and US after its opening on the local market. No prices have yet been given, but I’d personally expect them somewhere up to $25,000.
I wish I had a electric car.It would save me so much money in gas!
Thanks for sharing this – Cars like this will be so useful in larger cities. They’re better for the environment and can help alleviate traffic problems. When buying a car like this, do you need to install a separate outlet that will support it? I wouldn’t want to worry about blowing a circuit. The mileage information is very helpful – and impressive. Thanks!
