Vatican Started Installing Their New Solar Panels

The workers say that the newly installed solar panels will save about 200 tons of CO2 in just 2 weeks (the equivalent of 70 tons of oil). It's just nice. In fact, the Vatican is the only place I don't think these expensive things will get stolen. The project is estimated to about $1.5 million.

100 Year-Old Aerodynamics Problem Solved: Could Increase MPG Dramatically

MIT researchers discovered the solution to a problem put 100 years ago by Ludwig Prandtl. It refers to the situation when, for example, a car accelerates up and down a hill, then slows to follow a turn, and the airflow around it cannot keep up and separates from it. This aerodynamic phenomena creates an additional drag, slowing the car, and forcing you to push harder on the pedal, consuming more gas.

Cheapest Way to Get Hydrogen: the Photoelectrochemical Diode

Penn State researchers have found a cheaper method of producing hydrogen from water by the same old effect of electrolysis aided by the Sun's rays. They do not use classic solar cells, because these are expensive, but made a nanotechnology-based solar cell, called photoelectrochemical diode, that is simplistically said on the bottom of the water holding recipe.

Two 14MW Heat Recovery Systems Built in China

The Chinese company named "China Energy Recovery Inc" has completed the construction of two wasted heat recovery systems. Also, they announced they have signed two more contracts with foreign customers to build such heat recovery systems.

London's Eco Nightclub to Open Today

You eat. You dance. You generate power. All the shaking-for-nothing floors of London's nightclubs are one step behind the city's most eco-friendly nightclub. San Francisco has got one, and so does Rotterdam. Basically, the whole idea behind this concept is to generate electricity from the shaking dance floor, electricity which would largely power the dancers' music and lights. It's like "pedal for electricity", but more fun.

Shell Oil Company to Open 1 GigaWatt Solar Power Plant

Showa Shell Sekiyu, a Royal Dutch Shell subsidiary, the one of Japan largest oil company will invest 100 billion yen($938 mil) in a giant solar panel powered plant, AFP says.

Message for America: Have a Green Independence Day!

Over the years, America's economical supremacy has led the world's trends from zero to where we are now. Today, America celebrates the Independence Day. Independence itself is the greatest concept of them all, it's the feeling of freedom and the fiesta of life.

New Diesel DeNOx Catalyst to Reduce Emissions by 95%

A new catalyst has been developed by the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory. It can reduce the nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions diesel engines from 90%-95%. Integrated Fuel Technologies, Inc. (IFT), a Washington State start-up company with offices in Spokane and Kirkland, has been licensed to produce it.

Germany Storing CO2 Underground

Germany has an ongoing plan to store their CO2 emissions underground. They used a special drill during tests earlier this year for the carbon capture project in Ketzin. The GFZ geoscience institute says that Germany will inaugurate Europe's first underground carbon dioxide storage site.

Aerodynamic Trucks Fight Diesel Rising Prices

While diesel is approaching $5 a gallon, researchers become more interested in finding a way to reduce fuel consumption on the heavy trucks at highway speeds. Now they have come up with an interesting idea: while there's little point in firstly modifying the engines to consume less, and spending a lot of money on upgrading them, the focus went on making the existing heavy weight trucks more aerodynamic.
