BMW is partnering with Chinese company Brilliance to manufacture and sell electric vehicles in China under a new brand, Zinoro.
The world’s fastest growing car market is in China, which makes manufacturing and selling vehicles there a good prospect. BMW is China’s 2nd-biggest luxury auto manufacturer, the plant in Shenyag making the 3- and 5-Series and the X1. BMW already sells a couple of hybrid 3- and 5-Series, and will soon be selling the i3 and i8 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
The new brand is called Zinoro, which means “honoring promises.” What does the new Zinoro electric vehicles promise? There aren’t many details on the actual Zinoro electric vehicle that BMW and Brilliance are working on, but it won’t be made to compete with BMW’s current models, so Zinoro isn’t luxury or power as found in the rest of BMW’s lineup. Rather, the Zinoro electric vehicles will be made concentrating on delivering the practical and affordable.
