Korea will be the country where BMW will introduce its most eco-friendly conventional vehicle, the 320d EfficientDynamics Edition, by the end of next year. The German car maker has officially launched other two new hybrid electric vehicles.

Axel Rose, an engineer in charge of BMW Group’s performance and CO2 emissions said that the 320d EfficientDynamics Edition will become Korea’s most fuel-efficient conventional vehicle, once it will be released. According to BMW officials, the car needs an average of 4.1 liters of fuel to cover 100 kilometers ( being about 24.4 km per liter) and emits only 109 grams of carbon dioxide for every kilometer traveled.

This new car refers to BMW’s project aimed at being more eco-friendly and improving the efficiency of ordinary vehicles. “The next step will be the introduction of EfficientDynamics 2 and battery vehicles. In EfficientDynamics 2 you have to look deeper into the car. Only one third of the chemical energy in petrol is turned into mechanical energy and two thirds are turned into thermal energy. To get this back we found a partner in NASA to develop a thermal generator,” Rose said.

The ActiveHybrid 7 and ActiveHybrid X6 are also the two new hybrid electric vehicles launched by BMW. The ActiveHybrid X6 is equipped with two electric motors and a 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo engine. Producing a maximum power output of 485 brake horsepower, the car is able to reach 100 kilometers per hour in just 5.6 seconds.

Unlike the gasoline version of the X6, the new hybrid electric vehicle emits 20 percent less carbon dioxide and is 20 percent more fuel efficient. If the car uses only electric power, it is able to reach 60 kilometers per hour.

The second vehicle, BMW ActiveHybrid 7, has one electric motor and a 4.4-liter, V8 engine. The electric motor allows a 15 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and 15 percent increase in fuel efficiency.
