Biosolar focuses on exploring how to implement a cost reduction of solar cells by replacing petroleum-based plastic PV panel components with durable bio-based materials, that still meet the requirements of current PV panel manufacturing processes.
In order to sell the product in the North American and European Union markets, the technological innovation are the white BioBacksheets, made from brand new polymer materials and whose properties are now required to be registered with UL and IEC.
The new product is an improved version of the original translucent BioBacksheet and has already been subjected to reliability testing.
Reliability is indispensable to the manufacturers, as to ensure that the individual components and the overall panels system meet the demands of reliable and safely operation under rough environmental conditions. Currently, other PV module manufacturers are collaborating with BioSolar to recertify their existing PV panels with BioBacksheet.
Not only the BioBacksheet is cheaper, but also greener, and this further improves the solar cells’ independence from oil and other petroleum-based products.
