Approximately 60,000 alternative fuel vehicles will run on the streets of China until 2012. The initiative is part of the effort to reduce emissions and save energy, announced the Minister of Science and Technology of China, Wan Gang, quoted by Xinhua press agency.
Most of the new environmentally-friendly cars will be used for public transport. Also, LED lights usage will be promoted in dozens of Chinese cities, and the using of solar and wind energy will be accelerated, said Wan Gang.
According to the official, China, as a large developing country undergoing rapid industrialization, faced the pressures of promoting growth while saving resources and protecting the environment. China has decreased the energy consumption, using renewable energy sources and reducing emissions, a strategic plan to achieve sustainable development.
Its a start but what about the other billion. China needs to lead the way or they will become the worst if not already.
