The Toyota Camry SE is the Sport Edition of the Camry, stripped coming in at just under $24,000. For 2014, it will also be available with a hybrid powertrain, at around $27,500.

Unfortunately, there will only be 5,000 produced of the 2014.5 Toyota Camry Hybrid SE, hence the “Limited Edition” moniker. The Toyota Camry is one of Toyota North America’s best-selling cars, with great design cues for a mid-size sedan, comfortable and ergonomic interior. The Camry SE ups the performance with a 2.5ℓ i4, an optional 3.5ℓ V6, and standard six-speed automatic transmission with shift-paddles. What’s never been available before is a hybrid version of the Toyota Camry SE.

The question is, “Why not a Toyota Camry Hybrid SE?” Hybrid vehicle technology offers the best of both worlds, good low-end electric motor performance combined with fuel-efficient small-engine performance on the highway. Who wouldn’t want that? Apparently Toyota listened and will be releasing a mid-year limited edition of the Toyota Camry Hybrid SE, just 5,000 units.

Powered by Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive, the most-well-known hybrid powertrain on the planet, the Toyota Camry Hybrid is sure to be well-received. Considering the performance and fuel economy enhancements that the hybrid powertrain offers, for just a couple thousand dollars more, I wouldn’t be surprised if a couple things happened. First, the 5,000 “Limited Edition” Hybrid SEs will probably run out soon. Second, might Toyota make the Toyota Camry Hybrid SE a permanent member of the hybrid family?
